For several years I could not understand why so much importance was placed on the Name of God rather than on God Himself. Verses of scripture such as the following greatly stirred my curiosity:

[1] The Lord hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;

[5] We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all thy petitions.

[7] Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. - Psalm 20:1, 5, 7

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. - Proverbs 18:10

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. - Psalm 91:14
